FBI was looking at other Trumper

As one who regularly looks to the right-hand editorial page for sane commentary, I was disappointed to read the Feb. 3 editorial, "Memo Details Anti-Trump Collusion." This editorial was unsatisfactory both because of its handling of detail and because of the unsavory end it served.

Like the Republican memo, the editorial failed to acknowledge that the anti-Trump research culminating in the Steele dossier was instigated by Republican opponents of Trump's candidacy before gaining Democratic party support. Not Carter Page but George Papadopoulos was the Trump associate of earliest interest to the FBI; valid reason for suspicion of wrongdoing in connection with the Trump campaign already existed.

We can already see that the clear effect of the memo's release has been to accelerate President Trump's ongoing efforts to derail the Russia investigation by destroying public trust in the FBI and the Justice Department.

Happily, there are Republican as well as Democratic lawmakers who recognize these maneuverings for what they are: attempts to circumvent legal process by the circulating of a distracting counter narrative.

Trump must have freedom to bargain

I hope that President Trump will display the courage to stand up to Chief of Staff Gen. John Kelly and adviser Steven Miller. He needs the ability to strike a "grand bargain" with the Democrats on the "Dreamers" and the border wall/barrier.

I believe that this agreement should include use of such technology as E-Verify to help employers prevent illegals from obtaining employment.

Emissions testing is grossly unfair to many

The Hamilton Country Vehicle Emissions Testing Program is unfair to one class of people. We who hold the power and money and drive fine vehicles do not seem to care. Living close to your job and riding a bus to work do not exist for those people.

Try making a living with a job that pays low wages. Drive an old vehicle. Spend a week of wages trying to pass the emissions test, leaving your family without things they need. Try being banned from buying a vehicle license in a nearby county, while allowing fellow workers from those counties to drive to work in old vehicles with no test.

Guess who drives restored antique vehicles with no test? Who drives large pickup trucks above a certain weight, blowing black into the wind with no test?

Have we lost the last soft spot in our hearts? "Fair"? "Cruel"? We need to stand up. Our day may come.
