U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., today announced his 2016 re-election campaign now has $5.37 million cash on hand.

During the third quarter reporting period, which ended Sept. 30, Isakson reported he raised more than $1 million, bringing his total amount raised for the year to more than $4 million.

His campaign says no other U.S. Senate candidate in Georgia has reported as large an amount in cash on hand more than a year out from the election.

"I am excited and humbled by the investment folks are making in my campaign and look forward to continuing to represent Georgia's conservative values in the U.S. Senate," Isakson said in his news release.

Georgia Democrats have yet to find a serious opponent to Isakson, 70, who announced earlier this year that he has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Isakson says his doctors tell him the disease is in its early stages and won't affect his ability to serve another six-year term.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported last week that the Rev. Raphael Warnock, pastor of the Atlanta church once helmed by the Rev. Martin Luther Luther King, decided not to challenge Isakson, putting Democrats back at square one.

Isakson does have one challenger, Republican Derrick Grayson, a MARTA engineer and minister. He won just 1 percent of the vote in the 2014 Senate GOP primary, according to the AJC.
