Bredesen appoints locals to state panels

Seven local men and women have been appointed by Gov. Phil Bredesen to serve on state boards and commissions, according to a Governor's Office news release.

The governor appointed a total of 30 people to serve on 21 different boards and commissions, the release states, and appointment terms vary based on statutory recommendations or term limits specified by geographic or other qualifications.

"We depend upon the leadership and commitment of citizens like these Tennesseans to serve our state through its boards and commissions," Gov. Bredesen said in the release. "I appreciate their readiness to serve, and I am confident they bring the experience and knowledge necessary to be valuable members of their respective boards and commissions."

Local appointees include:

* Sharon Bryant, of Ooltewah, to the State Rehabilitation Council

* Sam Davis Elliott, of Signal Mountain, to the Tennessee Historical Commission

* Larry W. High, of Chattanooga, to the Barber Board of Examiners

* Charles E. Holt, Jr., of Chattanooga, to the Board of Dentistry

* Yvonne Stewart, of Winchester, to the Tennessee Community Services Agency Board of Directors

* Margie Littell Ulrich, of Dayton, to the Tennessee Council for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing

* Dallas Cress "Chip" Woods, of Maryville, to the State Board of Education.
