Hixson resident Robin Smith, a GOP candidate in the crowded field vying for Tennessee's 3rd Congressional District seat, said in a recent Twitter posting that President Barack Obama's response to the Gulf of Mexico oil spill has been "fumbling and incompetent."
"We don't need more lectures from podiums," she wrote. "Get out front on this or get out of the way."
Eleven Republicans, four Democrats and six independents are seeking the seat held by U.S. Rep. Zach Wamp, R-Tenn., who is running for governor.
Winners in the Aug. 5 primary election will square off in the Nov. 2 general election.
Fleischmann faults decision on troops
Republican 3rd District Candidate Chuck Fleisch-mann, a Chattanooga attorney, criticized President Obama's decision to send 1,200 National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border.
"This action being taken by the president is not enough, and he is insulting our intelligence by thinking he can use this as a bargaining chip when he later introduces what he will call 'comprehensive immigration reform,' but is in reality amnesty," Mr. Fleischmann said in a news release.
veterans group backs kernea
The campaign of Republican 3rd District contender Rick Kernea, a former Air Force captain, announced he has received the endorsement of Vets Helping Vets, described in a news release as a network of military veterans.
"VHV believes that fellow veterans can best understand and assist their comrades who have difficulties and challenges after completion of their military service," founder David Apperson said in the news release.
