Commissioners just voted 6-3 to override Mayor Jim Coppinger's veto of the amended 2016 budget.

The amended budget includes $900,000 in discretionary spending pulled from the county's fund balance.

Coppinger vetoed the amended budget on Monday because he said pulling from the county's savings to fund special projects spending was fiscally irresponsible.

Commissioners did not discuss the veto override before they voted, and the vote was identical to the one that approved the budget amendment last week.

Commissioner Chester Bankston made the motion, Tim Boyd seconded it. Commissioners Randy Fairbanks, Warren Mackey, Sabrena Smedley and Jim Fields supported the override.

Joe Graham, Greg Beck and Marty Haynes were in favor of the veto and against the addition of discretionary spending.
