Councilman Moses Freeman has been elected by the Chattanooga City Council to serve as its chairman for the next year.

"I'm honored and it's a privilege to serve as the chairman of this body," said Freeman, who just completed serving a term as the council's vice chairman. "I'm excited to lead a group like this...for the next year."

Freeman replaces Councilwoman Carol Berz as the body's leader.

"It's been a privilege and I've learned a lot," said Berz of her time serving as the council chair.

Councilman Jerry Mitchell was elected to serve as the council vice-chairman.

Each April, the City Council elects its chair and vice chair.
