Greg Martin, a real estate agent who serves as the District 3 member of the Hamilton County Board of Education, has announced a campaign for the district's county commission seat.

The district represents Hixson, Middle Valley, Lakesite and Big Ridge.

Marty Haynes, the current District 3 county commissioner, won his bid for the Hamilton County Assessor of Property seat in the Aug. 4 general election. He takes the oath of office on Sept. 1, leaving the county commission seat vacant.

"The people in Hamilton County desire and deserve a local government that is efficient with their tax dollars and focused on economic growth," Martin said. "I look forward to partnering with others to continue to build on the successes this county has enjoyed."

The announcement touts several of Martin's civic memberships, including service on the board of directors for the Friends of Hixson, the River Civic Center and the Hixson Council of the Chamber of Commerce.

Last year, he was named the PTA School Board Member of the Year in Tennessee.

His wife works as a public school teacher, and his four sons received their educations in District 3 public schools, according to the announcement.

The Republican caucus for the seat occurs on Sept. 8, with the winner earning a place on the Nov. 8 ballot.

Martin has not named who will he nominate to fill the District 3 school board seat vacancy, should he win the county commission seat. The county commission votes on the school board member appointment.

"It's way too early for that," Martin said in a phone interview Monday. "I've got a profile in mind, but not a person. I've got to win the caucus before I can really talk about that."
