Democrat McMillan throws lighthearted jab at Wamp

FRANKLIN, Tenn. - Democratic gubernatorial candidate Kim McMillan wants Republican rival Zach Wamp to learn a lesson about extemporaneous speaking.

At a Tuesday candidate forum in Franklin, Wamp blamed his notes for using the wrong acronym in one answer. He said he meant to say FDIC, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., and not FICA, the Federal Insurance Contributions Act.

McMillan, a former state House majority leader from Clarksville, in a lighthearted jab said: "Sometimes it helps not to have any notes, that way you don't have to just read something that's on the paper."

Wamp, a congressman from Chattanooga, joked that a cordial relationship between the candidates may be coming to an end.

Wamp's response, with an emphasis on the past tense: "I want you all to know that I used to tell people that Kim McMillan and Zach Wamp are the most intelligent and articulate candidates for governor."
