Tennessee Democrats elected a Nashville activist as their new chairman today, and chose a former state representative from Morristown over a Chattanooga City Council member for their vice chairman.

Mary Mancini, of Nashville, was chosen chairman by the party's executive committee over Lenda Sherrell of Monteagle. The vote was 61-9.

Sherrell was the party's 4th Congressional District nominee in last year's elections but lost to incumbent Republican Rep. Scott DesJarlais.

Meanwhile, Chris Anderson, of Chattanooga, lost a tight race for vice chairman to former state Rep. John Lizt of Morristown. The vote was 37-33.
