With a new WalletHub survey showing Tennessee ranks only 29th among states in terms of patriotism, Tennesseans may need to wave their American flags a little harder on July 4 as well as start voting more frequently.

The survey, released today, looked at eight metrics among the 50 states such as voting habits, civics education, military engagement.

Virginia ranks No. 1 with North Carolina holding down the seventh slot, South Carolina at No. 9 and Georgia hold down the No. 10 spot.

WalletHub says "it appears that patriotism has been waning in recent years. While 38% of Americans said the U.S. was the best country in the world in 2011, that number fell to 28% percent in 2014.
