NASHVILLE -- The sponsor of a bill allowing Chattanooga's EPB and other municipally owned power utilities to offer fast-speed broadband Internet outside their service areas has been put off in the House until next year.

The bill's sponsor, Rep. Kevin Brooks, R-Cleveland, requested the delay from Business and Utility Subcommitte members this afternoon.

Brooks first won approval from the panel on an amendment dramatically scaling back the bill's reach.

AT&T, Comcast and other privately owned providers oppose the bill.

The Senate Commerce Committee is scheduled to the bill later today.
