NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Federal officials say five health centers in Tennessee are receiving more than $4.2 million to help them serve more patients.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said Wednesday that the centers will use the funding to renovate or acquire new clinical space to provide care to an estimated 8,140 new patients in Tennessee.
According to the department's website, Cherokee Health Systems in Knoxville and Maury Regional Hospital in Columbia are each receiving $1 million.
Rural Health Services Consortium is getting more than $947,000, Mercy Health Services in Franklin is receiving $685,000 and United Neighborhood Health Services in Nashville is getting more than $600,000.
The department said the investment builds on the $3.7 million awarded to health centers in Tennessee for construction and renovation in September 2015.
