Tennessee House Republicans elect Casada to replace McCormick as majority leader Tennessee House Speaker Beth Harwell nominated for fourth term TN Senate GOP unanimously nominates McNally for speaker NASHVILLE - Tennessee House Speaker Beth Harwell, R-Nashville, today turned back a spirited challenge from Rep. Jimmy Matlock, R-Lenoir City, to become Republicans' nominee for a fourth term as the chamber's most powerful official. The vote was 40 to 30. Harwell, first elected speaker of the GOP-dominated House in 2011, is expected to face little opposition from minority Democrats. Republicans have 74 members to Democrats' 25 in the 99-member chamber.
