NASHVILLE - Democratic U.S. Senate candidate James Mackler announced today his 2018 campaign has raised more than $451,000 since launching April 17.

According to the Nashville attorney and decorated Iraq combat veteran's campaign, Mackler received 3,639 individual contributions with contributions coming from 77 of Tennessee's 95 counties and 80 percent received from in-state donors.

The campaign says its second quarter contributions were raised entirely from individuals with 87 percent of the total in amounts of less than $200.

"I am proud that this campaign has attracted so much interest, and investment, from so many individuals across Tennessee," Mackler said in a news release. "I am not a politician and it's both humbling and encouraging to see this type of grassroots support for our campaign to change Washington."

Mackler, 44, is seeking the Democratic nomination for the Senate seat now held by U.S. Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn.

Corker, a former Chattanooga mayor, hasn't said outright that he intends to run for a third term in 2018. Most Republicans, however, expect that he will.

Second quarter disclosures cover the reporting period from April 1 through June 30. The deadline for filing with the Federal Election Commission is Saturday, July 15.

Corker's campaign, meanwhile, told the Times Free Press that the senator expected to file a second quarter disclosure report showing he had $6.57 million in cash on hand - more than 12 times what Mackler raised - as of June 30.

U.S. Senate and House disclosures aren't due in to the Federal Election Commission until midnight Saturday. Corker had previously reported that as of March 31, he had $6.01 million in the bank. So he appears to have raised a minimum of $564,000 or so during the three-month period.
