Hamilton County: Election commissioner resigns after being arrested on public intoxication charge

Brandon Lewis, a Hamilton County election commissioner, resigned his position today after being arrested over the weekend on a charge of public intoxication.

Mr. Lewis, a Republican, said he made his decision after going to court this morning. He was found Saturday night by a Chattanooga police officer passed out and straddling a stop sign on Lindsay Street, according to an incident report.

He recently was involved in controversy when he mailed about 1,600 fliers of Councilwoman Carol Berz saying she voted for a property tax increase to constituents in her district.
