Tennessee and Alabama hold their annual spring games

Tennessee Volunteers -

KNOXVILLE - January quarterback enrollee Tyler Bray's 3-yard touchdown pass to Denarius Moore in the final minute this afternoon gave the White team a 10-0 halftime lead in Tennessee's Orange and White game at Neyland Stadium.

The Volunteers' spring-ending scrimmage got off to a slow start - at least offensively - and a 41-yard field goal by reserve Chip Rhome accounted for the only scoring until Bray hit Moore in the corner of the end zone.

Orange team quarterback Matt Simms, a junior college transfer and the son of former NFL quarterback Phil Simms, tried to respond in the closing seconds but was intercepted by Darren Myles Jr. near midfield.

The White team had only enough time remaining to try one play, and safety Rod Wilks nearly intercepted Bray as time expired.

The White team's defense nearly opened the scoring early in the second quarter. Toney Williams lost a fumble, but an offside penalty negated the play. The Orange team punted the ball away five plays later.

Tailback Tauren Poole, who likely cemented a starting position with a solid spring, accounted for most of the White team's yards.

Alabama Crimson Tide -

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Quarterback Greg McElroy and tailback Mark Ingram had solid performances this afternoon as the White team defeated the Crimson 24-17 tie at Alabama's A-Day spring football game.

McElroy completed 11 of 17 first-half passes for 130 yards and had a 39-yard touchdown toss to Marquis Maze in the second quarter that put the Crimson ahead 10-7. Ingram, who won last season's Heisman Trophy, rushed nine times for 90 yards and had a 60-yard carry early in the third quarter that set up a 5-yard Eddie Lacy scoring run that made it 17-7.

A.J. McCarron helped rally the White team and threw a 39-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Gibson on the game's final play.

The biggest number was the attendance, as a crowd of 91,312 watched the defending national champions.
