KNOXVILLE - Four-star. Three-star. Two-star. One big Sunday.
The University of Tennessee football team added at least three commitments on the final weekend before Wednesday's national signing day.
New UT coach Derek Dooley accepted non-binding, verbal pledges from four-star defensive back Dave Clark, three-star linebacker John Propst and two-star defensive back Dontavis Sapp.
Clark, the highest-rated prospect in Sunday's trio, starred as a versatile, 6-foot-2, 190-pound defensive back at Kansas's Independence Junior College.
"I've always wanted to play in the SEC, so it was a no-brainer," said Clark, whose known Dooley since UT's coach tried recruiting him to Louisiana Tech. "I saw everything I needed to see, and I can't wait to get back this summer and start working out with the guys."
Propst, a 6-2, 215-pound linebacker who initially committed to West Virginia last summer, was a three-year starter for Alabama football factory Hoover High School. He said backing off his longtime pledge to West Virginia was "really, really hard ... but Tennessee was just the best place for me."
Sapp, a 6-3, 205-pound, under-the-radar safety prospect from South Georgia football factory Valdosta High, was an East Carolina commitment before sneaking into Knoxville for a weekend visit and pledging to the Vols.
"It just doesn't get any better than the SEC, and I just felt better at Tennessee than I did anywhere else," said Sapp, whose size could eventually land him at linebacker. "The whole team up there is really close, kind of like a family, and I felt like I fight in."
The Vols also hosted former UT commit Markeith Ambles for an official visit weekend, though the Atlanta-area star's trip to Knoxville was delayed several times due to inclement weather.
Ambles, a five-star prospect, is also considering North Carolina and former Vols' head coach Lane Kiffin's Southern California Trojans.
