Lot of Bulldogs to miss G-Day

Perhaps It would be easier to list who is playing Saturday afternoon at Georgia's spring football game.

Bulldogs coach Mark Richt said after Thursday's practice that at least 10 players will miss G-Day, including most of the top secondary. Bacarri Rambo, Sanders Commings, Jakar Hamilton and Jordan Love already have been ruled out, and Richt said it is unlikely Brandon Boykin will play.

Tailback Washaun Ealey also is out because of a pulled hamstring, so Georgia's leading rusher the past two seasons will miss all three spring scrimmages.

"Guys don't realize it, but once they feel like they are ready, it is usually another week to 10 days before you can really go if it was a pretty significant pull, which his was," Richt said.

The Bulldogs had 18 players miss last Saturday's second scrimmage, which is when tackle Trinton Sturdivant tore his right anterior cruciate ligament.

The G-Day game will kick off at 1 and be televised by CSS. It will consist of 12-minute quarters with teams that were determined by a draft, as opposed to past pairings of the No. 1 offense against the No. 2 defense and the No. 2 offense against the No. 1 defense.

The Red roster is highlighted by center Ben Jones, inside linebacker Christian Robinson, tailback Caleb King, receiver Tavarres King, tight end Aron White, offensive tackle Cordy Glenn, outside linebacker Cornelius Washington and punter Drew Butler. The Red coaches will be Mike Bobo, Bryan McClendon, Rodney Garner and Scott Lakatos.

Aaron Murray will quarterback the Black and will be joined by receiver Marlon Brown, tight end Orson Charles, offensive lineman Justin Anderson, defensive end DeAngelo Tyson, inside linebacker Alec Ogletree, cornerback Branden Smith and kicker Blair Walsh. Todd Grantham, Kirk Olivadotti, Will Friend, Tony Ball and John Lilly will serve as Black team coaches.

The winning team will feast on steak and lobster, with the losing team saddled with beanie-weenies.

"I know our guys are really excited," Richt said. "The draft and the new format have created a buzz of positive energy. We think this will be an entertaining day, and we're looking forward to it. G-Day is another chance for our players to play with a lot of speed and energy, and it's an opportunity to play in front of our fans."

Halftime will contain a "Legends Quarterback Challenge" involving Eric Zeier, David Greene, D.J. Shockley and Matthew Stafford. The quarterbacks will earn points for various skills, and a contestant paired with the winning quarterback will have an opportunity to make a 25-yard pass into a barrel to win $25,000.
