Georgia continued preseason practices Thursday morning, and coach Mark Richt said he was proud of the energy level coming off Wednesday's scrimmage.
Cornerback Brandon Boykin and outside linebacker Cornelius Washington are closer to being at full speed after hamstring injuries, and backup right tackle Austin Long is scheduled to return Monday following a bout with mononucleosis. Backup nose Jonathan Jenkins, who missed half of the first workout because of the heat, is practicing harder and harder, according to Richt, and is pushing himself past the fatigue point.
Asked about the defensive freshmen, Richt said cornerback Damian Swann could find some playing time this season and Amarlo Herrera likely will play due to the lack of depth at inside linebacker. Richt said the staff would meet the first of next week to discuss the freshmen in more detail.
The Bulldogs lost a commitment for the 2012 signing class Thursday when C.J. Curry, a receiver from Flowery Branch, switched to Oklahoma State.
Former Ridgeland High School cornerback Devin Bowman arrived at the University of Georgia a little later than he wanted, but he didn't take long to start making plays.
Bowman went through his first college scrimmage Wednesday and made an interception on a two-point conversion. He has worked this week behind Branden Smith and Jordan Love at one of the corner spots and was made available to the media for the first time Thursday along with the other defensive freshmen.
Q: How has preseason camp gone so far?
A: "It's going good. I'm just trying to learn a lot of things right now and listening to everything my coaches are telling me."
Q: What has been the biggest adjustment from Ridgeland to Georgia?
A: "Learning the plays. Adjusting to the game speed has been OK, but there are so many more plays to learn now that I can't even count. I think it will come together for me. I've just got to stay buried in that playbook."
Q: Who has been the toughest receiver to guard?
A: "To be honest, all of them go hard, so I would have to say all of them."
Q: Would you be OK if coaches asked you to redshirt this season?
A: "It just depends on how I play and how good I get with the plays, but if that's what it came down to, then I would be OK with that."
Q: Who are you rooming with this semester?
A: "I'm rooming with [outside linebacker] Sterling Bailey, [offensive tackle] Zach Debell and [offensive tackle] Xzavier Ward."
Q: What do you do with any down time you might have?
A: "I talk to Brandon Boykin a lot and try to learn my playbook as much as I can. I try to learn something new every day to get better."
Q: Has Boykin taken you under his wing?
A: "He has taken all of the DBs under his wing. If anybody asks for any help, he is there."
