Olivadotti expected to join UGA staff

The Georgia Bulldogs are close to filling their defensive vacancy with Kirk Olivadotti.

Olivadotti is the longest tenured member of the Washington Redskins coaching staff, having worked under Norv Turner, Terry Robiskie, Marty Schottenheimer, Steve Spurrier, Joe Gibbs, Jim Zorn and Mike Shanahan in the past 11 seasons. The Washington Post, citing Redskins team sources, reported Wednesday that Olivadotti was leaving to coach linebackers at Georgia.

Georgia has been seeking a defensive assistant since inside linebackers coach Warren Belin left earlier this month to become linebackers coach of the Carolina Panthers.

Olivadotti spent the 2007-09 seasons as linebackers coach, tutoring London Fletcher and Brian Orakpo to their first Pro Bowl in '09, and was a defensive assistant this past season. He was a receiver at Purdue from 1993-96 and has not been in college coaching since a two-year stint at Indiana State in 1998-99.

The 37-year-old is the son of Tom Olivadotti, who coached on defensive staffs at Cleveland, Miami, Minnesota, Houston and the New York Giants. The elder Olivadotti was with the Texans in 2004 with current Bulldogs defensive coordinator Todd Grantham.
