Samford's women's basketball team is heading to the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history.

Samford guard Paige Anderson buried a 3-pointer with 18 seconds to go that lifted the Bulldogs to an 57-54 win over Appalachian State in McKenzie Arena on Monday.

After Anderson's bucket, which gave Samford its first lead of the second half, ASU forward Ashlen Dewart missed two free throws with 4.1 seconds to play that could have tied or given ASU the lead.

Then Samford guard Shelby Campbell hit two free throws for the final margin.

Anderson led Samford (25-7) with 14 points, Savannah Hill scored 13 and Emily London had 12.

Dewart led the Mountaineers (25-6) with 13 points and Courtney Freeman scored 12 points.
