UTC hires Parra as volleyball aide

New UTC volleyball coach Travis Filar has hired Savanah Parra as an assistant coach.

A native of Temecula, Calif., Parra was the Mid-American Conference setter of the year in 2006 and the MAC tournament MVP in 2005 and '06 at Ohio University. She then served one season as a graduate assistant at Southern Indiana and spent the last three years as an assistant coach at Bradley University and Southeastern Missouri State. She was the recruiting coordinator and worked with the setters in her year at SEMO.

"Savanah is an awesome person, and I am very excited to have her join my staff," Filar said in a UTC release. "She has valuable experience as an assistant coach and truly understands the dedication and hard work it takes to build a championship program, due to her experience at Ohio as a student-athlete. I know she is the type of person who will help me bring this program to a championship level."

Parra said she is "very enthusiastic about the potential of the Chattanooga program. ... From what I have seen so far, we can definitely be competitive quickly."

Her Ohio team led the NCAA in kills and assists per game in 2005 and made the round of 16 in the Division I tournament.
