Keon Williams was arrested by the Chattanooga Housing Authority and charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.University of Tennessee at Chattanooga running back Keon Williams was arrested early Sunday by Chattanooga Housing Authority police and charged with felony possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana for resale.
Mocs coach Russ Huesman said Tuesday that he knew about the arrest and had spoken with Williams, who is due in court May 23.
"I'm aware of the situation, and we'll see what happens in the next couple of weeks," Huesman said.
According to the arrest report, Williams was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped on Dee Drive at about 1:15 a.m. The road was blocked as police investigated another incident, and the car was traveling at a high rate of speed when police ordered it to stop, the report said.
Police saw Williams drop a white container to the floorboard, and they say it held about 10 grams of marijuana. Also several items of drug paraphernalia - scales and a marijuana grinder - were found in the book bag at Williams' feet.
The report noted that police read Williams his rights and "he did afterwards tell police each of the items found were his."
UTC spokesman Chuck Cantrell said students who are arrested are subject to a student conduct judicial review, separate from the criminal investigation, which could result in disciplinary action from the university.
Williams was an all-state player at Red Bank High School in 2009 and rushed for 500 yards as a UTC freshman in 2010.
