No APR penalties for UT sports

KNOXVILLE - The scores are in, and none of the University of Tennessee's 20 scholarship sports will face penalties for low Academic Progress Rate scores.

The NCAA released the APR scores on Tuesday afternoon, and all Volunteers and Lady Vols sports came in above the minimum score of 925 during the 2009-2010 academic year.

The score of UT's football program dropped from 944 to 937, but men's basketball (935 to 949) and baseball (936-938), two programs that had received penalties for poor scores in the form of scholarship reductions between 2004 and 2006, each had their scores improve.

The women's basketball, golf and tennis teams each scored the highest among UT's sports, with each ranking in the top 10 nationally.

The APR scores are derived from student-athlete's academic performance, eligibility and graduation. Each student-athlete receiving financial aid for athletics receives one eligibility point for staying in school and another eligibility point for remaining academically eligible. A team's total points are divided by possible points and multiplied by one thousand.
