Lee wins big in tourney

The women's basketball teams of Lee University and Southern States Athletic Conference rival Shorter each improved to 2-0 with wins Friday against teams that are a combined 0-9 in the opening night of Lee's Jack Souther Classic.

Shorter beat Tennessee Temple (0-5) 74-25, and the host Lady Flames routed Morris College 78-30 behind 18 points from Hollie German and 12 points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots from Karley Miller. Jenna Adams also had 12 points for Lee, with seven rebuonds. Erica Wilkerson had 11 pointso and eight rebounds for Morris.

Shayla Wilson's 15 rebounds were the Temple highlight. Abbie Daniel scored 20 points and Lindsey Crawford and Shelby Farrer had 14 and 10 rebounds for Shorter, and Kelly Ellison had seven assists and six steals.

In another tournament at Barbourville, Ky., Reinhardt's men beat Tennessee Temple 83-70.

• Tennessee Wesleyan (w) 62, Alice Lloyd 52: At Athens, the Lady Bulldogs got 15 and 14 points from Heather Gibson and Michelle Davis in overcoming 18 by the visitors' Gemma Gray. Leah Frazier added 10 points for Wesleyan (2-1), and Davis claimed 12 rebounds with Cody Houck adding eight.
