Ooltewah's Dupree commits to baseball Vols

Ooltewah High School junior Kevin Dupree has committed to play baseball for the University of Tennessee.

The left-handed pitcher committed to the Volunteers on Sunday.

"He'd been to Mississippi State and Alabama, and when he got to Tennessee he loved it," Ooltewah coach Brian Hitchcox said. "They offered and he accepted."

The coach said the 6-foot-2, 215-pound Dupree's best days are ahead of him.

"He was consistently 83-84 mph last year for seven innings, and he has become a four-pitch pitcher," Hitchcox said. "At the [Vols'] showcase he was at 87 mph in warmups but then was 84 in a game. That's probably from overthrowing. But he also has a ton of power as a hitter, and he has a good approach."
