Lady Mocs' Smith co-player of week

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga junior forward Becca Smith was named co-player of the week in Southern Conference women's soccer after scoring three of the Lady Mocs' four goals in a weekend sweep of Stetson and Jacksonville State at Gardner-Webb's tournament. She had a winning penalty kick in each game. Against Stetson she scored the tying goal in the 81st minute before netting the winning PK in overtime. The other honoree was Wofford sophomore Emily Bougas, who had three goals and two assists in 23 minutes of play in a 7-0 shutout of Alabama State. Bougas leads the conference with eight goals this season, and Smith is second with six.

DAYTON, Tenn. -- The Lee University men's soccer team scored three goals in a six-minute span early in the second half and won 3-0 Tuesday night at Bryan College, ranked 12th in the NAIA. After a goal credited to the team at 53:50, Theodore Dweh scored and assisted on a Chevon Roberts goal for the Flames, who got five saves from Benjamin Perez. Lee got one point in this week's NAIA poll.

Running

The UTC men's cross country team moved up one spot to fifth in the South Region after last Friday's win in the season-opening PowerAde Invitational meet, according to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Florida State is ranked No. 1 in the region, followed by Florida, Georgia, Alabama and UTC. Tennessee, Mississippi and Mississippi State are seventh through ninth, and Georgia Tech is 11th. Coach Bill Gautier's Mocs and Lady Mocs will run Saturday morning in the Vanderbilt Commodore Classic at Percy Warner Park in Nashville.

Volleyball

WALESKA, Ga. -- Carolyn Evans and Kerrie Reinhardt had eight kills apiece and Taylor Fink and Chelsea Breaden added seven each as Bryan College won its Appalachian Athletic Conference volleyball opener Tuesday night at Reinhardt, 25-22, 25-20, 29-27. Fink also had 29 assists and Corrie Walker and Caroline Aldridge made 17 and 10 digs for the Lady Lions, 3-10 overall.

DECATUR, Ga. -- Sewanee already has twice as many volleyball wins as last season after defeating Agnes Scott on Tuesday, 25-22, 23-25, 25-18, 23-25, 15-4. Rachel Schuman began the final set with eight consecutive service points for the Tigers (4-5), who got 20 kills and 19 digs from Jamie Sue Wilson, 20 digs and six blocks from Kayla Sewell, 19 digs also from Nicole Klug and 23 assists and seven aces from Schuman. All four are freshmen.
