UTC's Baras tourney includes 21 teams

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga tennis teams will host the 28th annual UTC Steve Baras Fall Classic this weekend with more than 120 collegiate players from nine men's teams and 12 women's.

The tournament runs today through Sunday.

"This year's Steve Baras is one of the deepest fields in tournament history," UTC men's coach Carlos Garcia, noting that the men's segment includes teams from six conferences. The visiting men's programs are Belmont, East Tennessee State, Jacksonville State, Kennesaw State, Lee University, Memphis, North Alabama and South Florida.

The women's draw includes all of those except Belmont, ETSU and USF plus UAB, Lipscomb, Mercer, Murray State, Stetson and Xavier.

Lady Mocs junior Jenna Nurik is the No. 1 seed in the women's Gold Flight. Shaina Singh will be the No. 3 seed in the Platinum Flight and Brianna Wishing is No. 2 in the White Flight, with fellow senior Charlotte Bossy in the Silver Flight. Sophomore Alexa Flynn and freshman Kaylene Chadwell also are competing in singles.

Junior Moc Roberto Vieira is the No. 4 seed in the men's Blue Flight, and juniors Ankit Chopra, Manuel Barroetavena and Chris Smith are in the Gold Flight. William Disterdick, Stephen Crofford, Orlando Lourenco and Jordan Faith also are entered.
