Lady Mocs fall 6-2 in softball at GSU

STATESBORO, Ga. -- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga softball team lost 6-2 to Georgia Southern on Sunday to drop the Southern Conference series two games to one.

GSU pitcher Sarah Purvis limited UTC (19-13, 5-2) to four hits while striking out seven. Shortstop Jessica Traxler got the Lady Mocs on the board with a two-run double in the seventh inning.

Sarah Beth Roberts, Kasey Tydingco and Michelle Fuzzard got the other UTC hits.

SoCon preseason player of the year Marie Fogle had a two-run home run for the Eagles (22-12, 8-1), and catcher Mackenzie Williams homered for the third consecutive game with a three-run shot in the fourth inning off UTC starter Taylor Deason.

The Lady Mocs will play at home for the first time in three and a half weeks when they host Marshall at 5 p.m. Wednesday. They will return to SoCon play with a three-game series against Elon starting Friday at 1 p.m.

Lady Vols top UK

At Knoxville, Tennessee won its weekend SEC series against Kentucky with a 4-2 victory on Shelby Burchell's seventh-inning home run Sunday. Former GPS standout Tory Lewis was 2-for-3 for the Lady Vols (27-8, 9-5).
