University of Tennessee at Chattanooga wide receivers coach Will Healy is the Mocs' new recruiting coordinator.
Coach Russ Huesman selected Healy as the replacement in that role for Geep Wade, who was in charge of recruiting the past two years before leaving earlier this month for a job at Marshall.
"I know it's a lot of responsibility, but I'm looking forward to it and I wanted more responsibility," Healy said. "I enjoy the recruiting side of it, and I also know that there's a lot of stuff I have to learn.
"I definitely take it as a compliment and a promotion, and I understand the seriousness of what recruiting's all about and how important it is to a program. Ultimately, winning and losing is about the athletes you can recruit and bring in to your program."
Healy will coordinate UTC's recruiting and focus on developing relationships with area coaches and players.
"Will will be recruiting anybody that shows up in your newspaper," Huesman said. "Anybody that you guys talk about, Healy will be in that high school."
Ehrenfeld leaves UTC
Tight ends coach Russ Ehrenfeld, a former UTC offensive lineman and teammate of Huesman's, has left the program to "pursue other opportunities," Huesman said Friday.
Huesman said he wasn't in a position to elaborate, implying that he would let Ehrenfeld's new employer make the announcement. Ehrenfeld coached the offensive line in 2009 and shared duties with Wade in 2010 before being moved to tight ends last spring. He did not return a Times Free Press phone call seeking comment.
Replacing Ehrenfeld as the tight ends coach is graduate assistant Wes Satterfield (no relation to Mocs offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield), who was a graduate assistant at Ohio State the past two years and spent three years on the staff at North Carolina before that.
"He's a bright young coach, he knows football and we're excited to have him," Huesman said.
Satterfield, from Hartsville, Tenn., played quarterback at Sewanee.
Spring practice dates
The first of the Mocs' 15 practices this spring is Monday. They will go again Wednesday, Friday and Saturday next week. The first scrimmage is March 7, the second is March 24 and the spring game is March 31.
Because of the shuffled schedule due to changes on the coaching staff and the need to keep the spring game on March 31, UTC will conduct two practices following the spring game.
