UTC softball tops SIU-Edwardsville

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga softball team picked up a 4-1 win over Southern Illinois-Edwardsville on Wednesday in a mid-week nonconference game at Jim Frost Stadium.

The Lay Mocs (11-8) fell behind 1-0 in the first inning, but designated player Vivian Morimoto tied the game on a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning and took the lead on an RBI single by left fielder Layne Rainey.

Freshman Cheyenne Willis extended the lead in the third inning with her third home run of the season, and Jessica Traxler's RBI single in the sixth ended the scoring.

Sarah Beth Roberts led the UTC attack on offense, going 2-for-3 and scoring a run.

Michelle Fuzzard started and earned the win in the pitching circle, allowing one run on three hits. Freshman Taylor Deason was perfect over the final three innings with three strikeouts to pick up her first save of the season.
