Mocs going to Bowling Green Regional

Mark Guhne will drive the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga team van to the site of an NCAA men's golf regional instead of to the airport for the first time in four years.

The NCAA selection committee placed the Mocs in the Bowling Green (Ky.) Regional at The Club at Olde Stone, which is less than four hours from campus.

UTC is the sixth seed in the 14-team field. The top five advance to the NCAA championship tournament at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.

"We have traveled, it feels like, all over the world for our recent regionals," Coach Guhne said. "It's nice to be able to not have to make big travel plans. It takes a lot of pressure off the budget, too."

The Mocs, ranked No. 33 in the nation, will begin the three-day tournament on May 17.

Four members of the team placed in the top 10 of the Holston Hills Invitational over the weekend. Chris Robb led them in the competition against other college golfers and Tennessee amateurs. He shot a 5-under-par 139, which landed him third place.

"The guys are playing really well right now," Guhne said. "We have to keep it going next week.

"You have to play good anywhere you go."
