It was a rough day for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga softball team Saturday, as the Lady Mocs dropped the first two games of their Southern Conference series at College of Charleston.

UTC had 2-0 leads in both games before falling 3-2 and 12-2. The Cougars (23-16, 10-6) outhit the Lady Mocs 23-10 in the doubleheader.

RBI hits by Sarah Beth Roberts and Stephanie Rieck in the fourth inning of game one gave the Lady Mocs (23-19, 8-6) a lead, but the Cougars tied the score on a two-run single by Allison Pedigo in the fifth and won when UTC pitcher Taylor Deason walked Pedigo with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh.

In the second game, Roberts' two-run home run gave the Lady Mocs the lead, but a six-run fifth inning and a five-run sixth for Charleston ended the game early.

Hope Klicker and Stephanie Saylors pitched five-hitters for Charleston. Ashton Jarrett was 3-for-4 and scored a run for the Cougars in the opener. Pedigo was 4-for-4 and Kristy Giragosian homered, singled and batted in five runs in game two.

UTC will try to salvage a win in the final game of the series today at 1 p.m.

* Chattanooga State 7-2, Motlow 2-1: At Motlow, Shelby Willard followed Haley Fagan's seven-hitter with six strikeouts and no earned runs with a three-hitter and seven strikeouts as the Lady Tigers swept the TCCAA doubleheader.

Lacye Walker was 3-for-4 with two home runs and a double in the first game and scored one of the two runs for Chattanooga State (28-10, 19-5) in game two, when Baylee Williams and Elyse Ferguson had the RBIs. Khadija Neely hit a three-run homer, Beth Breeden homered and scored twice and Emily Dagnan was 2-for-3 with two doubles in the first game.

* William Carey 10-3, Lee 9-4: At Cleveland, the host Lady Flames won the second game of the SSAC doubleheader with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning after the Mississippi school scored three in the top half. Dominique Hannah was 4-for-4 and scored twice and Amanda Lynn, Laurel Allen and Dezirae Parsons each was 2-for-4 in the win for Lee (34-7, 19-4).

Parsons was 3-for-5 with two homers and five RBIs in the first game, when Ana Coscorosa was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Lynn was 2-for-4 and scored twice. Kayleigh Anspach was 3-for-4 with two homers and four RBIs in the win for William Carey (30-13, 16-8), and Anna Lauren Fontenot was 5-for-8 in the doubleheader.

* Bryan 13-12, Montreat 2-0: At Montreat, Sarah Hundley pitched a no-hitter in game two after Shanna Chappell and Leighann Henry combined on a two-hitter in the AAC wins for the Lady Lions. Christine Marino and Katelyn Bowen each was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Alexa Valdes and Jill Davis each was 2-for-3 with three RBIs in game one, and Heather Daniel and Kirstie Jennings each was 3-for-4 with three and two RBIs in the rematch.

* Covenant 14-15, Wesleyan (Ga.) 1-0: The Lady Scots kept the Macon team winless with the two five-inning Great South Athletic Conference wins, as Cori Hilt combined with Hannah Rogers to pitch a two-hitter and with Ellie Groenendyk on a one-hitter.

Jenni Jobe was 3-for-3 with two triples, four RBIs and three runs and Kendall Whann was 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs for Covenant (6-24, 5-7) in the first game, when Chandler Shepherd was 2-for-2 with three stolen bases and three runs and Courtney Wagoner was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Wagoner was 1-for-1 with a double and four RBIs in the second game, when Shepherd and Jobe had two RBIs apiece and two runs and Morgan Strennen and Meagan Hess each scored three times.

* Bethel 5, Tennessee Temple 3: At Ooltewah High School, the second-year Lady Crusaders fell to 18-13 although Raven Pope was 3-for-4 and Ashlyn Mitchell, Amanda Rector, Autrelle Brazzle and Heather Smith each had two hits.
