Alabama Crimson Tide's Alvin Kamara has knee scoped

Alabama freshman tailback Alvin Kamara had his knee scoped recently and is questionable for the Crimson Tide's opener Aug. 31 against Virginia Tech in Atlanta.

Kamara, a 5-foot-10, 195-pounder from the Atlanta suburb of Norcross, was one of four tailbacks ranked among the top 100 prospects nationally who signed with Alabama in February. Saban said the setback was similar to what former Tide tailback Mark Ingram endured at the start of the 2010 season.

"He was doing extremely well and is going to be a really good player," Saban said. "This is not something that would supersede us from continuing to try and use him this year."

Alabama will hold its second preseason scrimmage Saturday, which could determine the best combination on the offensive line. Arie Kouandjio and Austin Shepherd have each worked at right tackle and left guard, with Kouandjio beginning camp at guard but playing more lately at tackle.
