Tim Fortenberry's basket with 2:34 left in the game gave Bryan College a seven-point lead and held up for a 78-77 win at Virginia Intermont in Appalachian Athletic Conference men's basketball Thursday at Bristol, Va. Virginia Intermont won the women's game 64-59 despite 16 points and 12 rebounds by Jenna Ray and 15 points from Abigail Pippenger. Robert Riley had 23 points and 10 rebounds and Derrick Walker and Brandon Cole added 13 and 11 points and seven and eight rebounds for Bryan's Lions, who have moved into third place with a 7-4 AAC record. Fortenberry had 10 points and five assists. Joshua Hart scored 20 points for Intermont.

• First-place Tennessee Wesleyan beat winless St. Andrews 95-85 in AAC men's basketball Thursday in Laurinburg, N.C., as Zamarius McClendon had 25 points and 12 rebounds and Desmond Crisp and Tyler Burse scored 22 and 19 points. Matt Harper added 14 and E'Jay Ward had eight assists in the 11th consecutive win for the Bulldogs (18-7, 11-1), ranked No. 25 in NAIA Division II. Clavontae Brown had 21 points on 10-of-13 shooting for St. Andrews (0-20, 0-12). The second-place TWC women (14-8, 11-2) won 67-61 with 16 points and 10 rebounds from Cody Houck, 15 points from Michelle Davis and 12 points and seven assists from Heather Gibson.

• Hollie German scored 20 points and Jenna Adams had 19 plus 12 rebounds and four steals as the Lee University women's basketball team improved to 18-2, 9-2 in the Southern States Athletic Conference, with a 74-46 home win Thursday against Brenau. Julia Zimmerman scored 12 points and Brooke Hamby made another four steals for Lee.

• Haley Soles, Jessie Blankenship and Terah Hooper scored 13, 12 and 11 points as the Covenant College women's basketball team trounced Toccoa Falls 78-40 on Thursday. Ruth Gibson grabbed 12 rebounds and Kiaira Cooper had seven assists and four steals for the Lady Scots (9-8), who jumped to a 21-2 lead.

• Carson-Newman junior Shyra Clark from Cleveland High School had a career-high 21 points and 14 rebounds in leading the Lady Eagles to a 71-53 SAC basketball win Wednesday at Brevard. Then another Cleveland graduate, Ish Sanders, overcame 3-of-12 shooting to help Carson-Newman's men win in overtime, 74-69, with nine rebounds and five assists to go with his nine points. He had two defensive rebounds and a free throw in the last 16 seconds of OT. Cody Henegar from Marion County had 11 points, five blocked shots and six rebounds.
