The Cleveland State Community College basketball teams began their season with victories Friday evening, the Lady Cougars beating the Milligan junior varsity 68-47 and the Cougars downing Georgia Highlands 87-71.

Jamesha Mosley had 18 points and 10 rebounds and Brittany Ramsey had 12 rebounds, eight points, five assists and four steals for the Lady Cougars, who got eight points each also from Jara Gasper (plus five steals) and Brandi Whitted. Jackie Hale and Keevin Tyus scored 15 points apiece and Matt Whitmire and Travis Wildgoose added 10 each in the Cougars' win, and Tyus had nine rebounds while Stetson Moore had six assists with nine points.

• Marian (w) 59, Bryan 53: At Dayton, Keila Formont scored 27 points for the host Lady Lions, but Sarah Brewer's 15 points and Faith Reece's 11 rebounds with 10 points led the Indiana team to victory. Jenna Ray had 12 points, nine reobunds and four assists for Bryan (1-1). Formont was 4-of-10 on 3-point shots.

• Asbury 70, Hiwassee 62: At Wilmore, Ky., host Asbury had a strong second half in its season opener in getting past Hugh Watson's injury-plagued Tigers (1-1), who got 19 points from LaZerick Boyd, 12 from Justin Browner and 10 points and 10 rebounds from Joel Bailey.

• Dalton State 79, Belhaven 73: At Clinton, Miss., Ricky Sears scored 20 points as the Roadrunners rose to 2-0 in their inaugural season as a four-year program. Demetrice Jacobs, Sean Tate and Anthony Hilliard added 12, 11 and 10 points for DSC. Curt Hall and Deon Bedford scored 19 and 17 for Belhaven (0-1).
