Mocs' Williams gets SoCon honor

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga running back Keon Williams has been named the Southern Conference offensive player of the week for the second week in a row.

The SoCon announced its players of the week this morning and the redshirt junior, a former Red Bank High School standout, earned the nod with his performance last Saturday in UTC's 42-10 rout of Austin Peay at Finley Stadium.

In the win, Williams rushed for 106 yards and a career-best three touchdowns on just 11 carries. Two weeks ago, in the Mocs' 42-14 win at Georgia State, Williams ran for a career-high 147 yards and a touchdown on 20 attempts.

Williams is averaging 97.7 yards per game and 7.5 yards per carry. He shares the SoCon lead in touchdowns (four) with Mocs tight end Faysal Shafaat and Samford running back Fabian Truss.

UTC (2-1) is off Saturday and will open SoCon play on Sept. 28 at Georgia Southern (2-1, 0-1 SoCon).
