The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga softball team swept a nonconference doubleheader against Tennessee Tech on Wednesday winning 12-1 and 3-1 at Jim Frost Stadium.

The Lady Mocs (21-14) easily dispatched the Golden Eagles in the first game with a seven-run second inning and a five-run fourth to put the game out of reach and end it after five innings. Nicole Osterman and Cricket Blanco each homered in the win, and Blanco, Anyssa Robles, and Sarah Beth Roberts each had two hits.

Sophomore pitcher Katie Henderson continued her strong work in the circle of late, allowing an unearned run on two hits and a walk over five innings while striking out seven to push her record to 11-6 for the season.

The pitching was solid in the second game as well, as junior Taylor Deason pitched 6 1/3 innings while also allowing just an unearned run. She gave up seven hits, no walks and struck out six to pickup her ninth win of the season, and Henderson got the final two outs for her first save of the season.

With Deason and Henderson carrying the bulk of the load, UTC's pitching staff has lowered its ERA to 1.88 this year, and Deason has an impressive 0.93 ERA in 25 appearances.

Freshman first baseman Jesslyn Stockard's first-inning single scored Alyssa Taylor to give UTC the early lead, but Tennessee Tech (10-28) responded with a run in the top of the second.

Blanco recaptured the lead for UTC with an RBI single in the third inning, and senior outfielder Kaiti Dutton padded the lead with a run-scoring single in the sixth inning to score pinch runner Marina Wilkerson.

The Lady Mocs will return to Southern Conference play this weekend when they host Elon for a three-game series with a doubleheader Saturday at 2 p.m. followed by the series finale Sunday at 1 p.m.
