The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga has dismissed junior receiver Terrell Robinson, sophomore running back Kenny Huitt and redshirt freshman longsnapper Will Sharpton from the football team for violation of athletic department policy.
According to Mocs coach Russ Huesman, Robinson is the only one of those three to ask for a release so that he can transfer, adding that Huitt and Sharpton are staying at UTC for at least this semester.
"We dismissed three players for violation of athletic department policy," Huesman said. "Those three are Terrell Robinson, Kenny Huitt and Will Sharpton, and that's basically all I can say.
"I can say I care about everyone on our football team, and we never want to lose any of them."
Robinson's dismissal ends a roller coaster career with the Mocs that saw flashes of on-field brilliance but off-the-field issues. The former Mr. Football award winner from South Pittsburg High began his headline-grabbing career by earning Southern Conference freshman of the year honors when he started the final five games of the 2011 season at quarterback, combining for 11 rushing and passing touchdowns.
The following season however, Robinson abruptly quit the Mocs for two days in early September before being allowed to return by coaches and finished as the team's leading receiver that year. He didn't play in the season-opener last fall, serving a six-quarter suspension, but the 6-foot-3, 200-pound versatile athlete wound up playing in 11 games and finished fourth in receiving with 27 catches for 263 yards and two TDs and also ran for 143 yards and completed 14 of 19 pass attempts for 121 yards.
A former South Pittsburg teammate said Robinson may to enroll at Faulkner University, an NAIA program in Montgomery (Ala.) with plans to play there this fall. Attempts to reach Robinson and his family were unsuccessful.
Huitt was the Mocs' second-leading rusher as a freshman in 2012, and last season, the 5-9, 200-pounder from Atlanta's Norcross High School played in 10 of 12 games, rushing 55 times for 184 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Sharpton is a redshirt freshman longsnapper from Tullahoma.
