South Alabama defensive coordinator Kevin Sherrer, who has played and coached with new Georgia defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt, is expected to join the defensive staff of the Bulldogs.
Neither Georgia nor South Alabama had announced the move as of Wednesday evening, but the Mobile Register reported that Sherrer has talked with Georgia. Sherrer coached defensive backs in his one season with the Jaguars, who won their last three games to finish 6-6, but Pruitt will be handling the secondary at Georgia.
Sherrer was a tight end for Alabama from 1993 to '95 and was a teammate of Pruitt in '95. The two worked together at Hoover High School in 2005 and '06 before Pruitt left to become Alabama's director of player development.
When Pruitt became Nick Saban's secondary coach in 2010, a role he held for three seasons, Sherrer left Hoover to replace Pruitt as the Crimson Tide's director of player development.
