Melissa Davin went 3-for-5 with a grand slam and five RBIs and Hannah Arkine batted in three runs as the No. 2-ranked Tennessee softball team opened Southeastern Conference play Friday with a 9-2 win at Arkansas.
The teams will play a doubleheader today, beginning at 1:30 p.m. EDT.
Tennessee pitcher Ellen Renfroe improved to 14-0 with a four-hitter and seven strikeouts, with only one earned run allowed. Kasey Fagan homered for Arkansas (19-7) in a two-run third inning, after the Lady Vols (23-2) leld 8-0.
Akamine was 2-for-3 and Rainey Griffin was 2-for-4 and scored two runs for Tennessee. Leadoff batter Megan Geer also scored twice, after walking, and Madison Shipman was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
