Lady Vols lose, win at Arkansas

The second-ranked Tennessee softball team lost 5-4 in the first game of its Southeastern Conference doubleheader Saturday against Arkansas at Fayetteville, Ark., but rebounded to win 8-0 and take the series two games to one.

Ellen Renfroe (15-0) pitched a two-hitter in the series finale, when the Lady Vols (24-3, 2-1) scored two runs in the first inning and added four in the second and one in the third. Leadoff batter Madison Shipman was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, and No. 2 batter Melissa Davin was 2-for-2 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs.

Annie Aldrete homered from the No. 3 spot, and Rainey Gaffin was 2-for-3 with an RBI in Tennessee's win.

Taylor Koenig was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Hannah Akamine was 2-for-2 with one RBI in Saturday's first game, when Haley Tobler scored twice as the Lady Vols took a 4-1 lead through five innings, but Devon Wallace's three-run homer off reliever Gaffin highlighted a four-run seventh that carried Arkansas (20-8, 1-2) to victory.
