Georgia sophomore cornerback Shaq Wiggins has decided to transfer, Bulldogs football coach Mark Richt announced Friday.

Wiggins played in 12 games last season and made eight starts. The 5-foot-10, 165-pounder from Tyrone, Ga., made 19 tackles and two interceptions, returning his first one 39 yards for a touchdown in the loss at Vanderbilt.

"Shaq and I have been talking over the last few days, and a fresh start is what he believes is in his best interest," Richt said through a release. "We respect his decision and certainly wish him nothing but the best."

Wiggins got his second interception in the Gator Bowl, but a miscommunication between him and safety Quincy Mauger resulted in Nebraska receiver Quincy Enunwa breaking free for a 99-yard touchdown reception.

"I'm not going to blame it on anybody, but the safety had the half field and I had somebody else coming out," Wiggins said after what would be his final game for the Bulldogs. "There was a little confusion, and it's what we've been trying to fix all season. I really can't wait until next season so we can fix everything.

"We know what everybody's capable of, so next season we shouldn't have as many mistakes as we did this year."
