Recently graduated University of Tennessee at Chattanooga basketball player Taylor Hall was named the Southern Conference female athlete of the year, the league offic announced Tuesday.

Hall averaged 15 points, 8.6 rebounds and 4.5 assists in being chosen women's basketball player of the year. She helped the Mocs to a 29-4 finish, which included an unblemished 18-0 mark in conference play. They won the conference tournament before falling in the first round of the NCAA tournament to Syracuse.

Hall is UTC's eighth overall female winner. The previous most recent was softball player Michelle Fuzzard in 2012.

"It's truly an honor," Hall said. "Each UTC player to win this award has been a part of a great team that accomplished a lot, and we had a great team that was undefeated in the conference, and that helped me win this award. I want to thank the team and the coaching staff for a great year all-around."

Hall worked as a volunteer with the PAWS program and graduated with a degree in Rehabilitations Science. She was a four-year member of the dean's list and athletic director's honor roll and a three-time Academic All-SoCon selection. She is currently taking classes at Tennessee to finish her requirements for medical school and plans to take the MCAT on Aug. 15 before most likely playing in Europe this fall.

She finished her career 20th on UTC's all-time scoring list with 1,183 points and eighth in rebounds (814).

Davidson's De'Mon Brooks, the other basketball player of the year, was the SoCon male athlete of the year.
