Alabama redshirt sophomore tailback Tyren Jones, who was suspended in February and had yet to practice this spring, was dismissed from the team Tuesday evening.

Jones was arrested earlier Tuesday for for marijuana possession.

"Tyren Jones was indefinitely suspended from the football program early in the semester," Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban said in a released statement. "He was given an opportunity academically and from a team rules standpoint, but he failed to do any of the things necessary to comply with the rules of the Alabama football program. He was dismissed from the team when he refused to follow the parameters given to him for reinstatement."

The 5-foot-9, 212-pounder from Marietta, Ga., became the third Tide player arrested since Friday's fourth spring practice. Safety Geno Smith was arrested early Saturday morning on a DUI charge, and defensive lineman Jonathan Taylor was arrested Saturday night on domestic violence charges.

Taylor was dismissed from the team Sunday afternoon.

Jones appeared in 11 of Alabama's 14 games last season, rushing 36 times for 224 yards (6.2 per carry) and two touchdowns. A chunk of that occurred in the Crimson Tide's 48-14 win over Western Carolina, when he rushed 11 times for 75 yards and a score.

In 2013, Alabama signed four tailbacks who were ranked among the nation's top 100 prospects by Rivals.com: Derrick Henry (No. 36), Alvin Kamara (No. 45), Altee Tenpenny (No. 53) and Jones (No. 79). Henry is the only one still in the program.
