Senior guard TJ Cox of Covenant was the USA South men's basketball player of the week after scoring a career-high 34 points in Saturday's 96-81 win over Birmingham-Southern. He was 6-of-8 on 3-point shots and 8-of-9 on free throws and also had three assists. He is third in the league in scoring with 17.5 points per game.

* The Tennessee Wesleyan men's basketball team improved to 8-1 for the season with an 83-76 win Monday night at Fisk in Nashville. Wesleyan's Leland Robinson was the Tennessee Sports Writers Association's men's player of the week as well as the Appalachian Athletic Conference honoree for games of Nov. 30-Dec. 6.

* The Georgia Northwestern basketball teams concluded their pre-Christmas schedules by losing 90-51 to the West Georgia Tech women and 68-55 to the WGT men Monday in Carrollton. Darrius Fugh had 16 points, Dominic Powell scored 10 and Christopher Ellis had nine rebounds for the Bobcats (6-5); Haley Blevins had 22 points with six 3s and seven rebounds for the Lady Cats (0-11).
