NAMES YOU KNOW

Georgia signed its first No. 1 player nationally in Mark Richt's 15 classes by landing defensive tackle Trenton Thompson of Albany, Ga. He should play sooner than later, as should defensive back Rashad Roundtree and receiver Terry Godwin. Godwin was Rivals.com's top athlete nationally and has an excellent shot at early playing time following the departures of Michael Bennett, Chris Conley and Jonathon Rumph.

NAMES YOU WILL KNOW

The best candidate for this category is Jake Ganus, who will play just one season for the Bulldogs after transferring from UAB. Ganus led the Blazers in tackles this past season and had an 11-tackle showing at Arkansas, and he plays middle linebacker, a position wide open with Amarlo Herrera and Ramik Wilson now seeking a spot in the NFL. Another candidate is four-star receiver Michael Chigbu from New Orleans.

NAMES YOU WILL MISS

Because outside linebacker Roquan Smith of Montezuma, Ga., was still up in the air as of Wednesday evening after committing to UCLA on ESPNU, we're not sure where to put him. The Bulldogs did lose receiver Van Jefferson of Brentwood, Tenn., who signed with Ole Miss, as well as receiver Darius Slayton of Norcross, Ga., who flipped to Auburn. Georgia was a finalist for cornerback Donte Jackson, who signed with LSU.
