Roadrunners top Martin Methodist

Dalton State's men's basketball team defeated visiting Martin Methodist 66-61 in a Southern States Athletic Conference showdown that was billed as the NAIA Game of the Week on Saturday, as Anthony Hilliard scored 22 points.

Jamaine Burrey scored 13 off the bench and Sean Tate and Jordan Bowling added 11 points each for the eighth-ranked Roadrunners (22-3, 12-2), Tate with five assists, and NAIA rebounding leader Ladaris Green had 13 rebounds. Josh Watson scored 20 points and Darius Forrest had 15 points and nine rebounds for Martin Methodist (21-4, 11-3), which is tied for 12th in the NAIA Division I rankings.

* At Dayton, Tenn., fourth-place Bryan College beat first-place and nationally (NAIA Division II) ninth-ranked Tennessee Wesleyan 59-56 in Appalachian Athletic Conference basketball Saturday, but Wesleyan prevented a doubleheader sweep with an even closer 71-70 men's victory.

Megan Billingsby had 22 points with 6-of-7 3-point shooting and Keila Formont had nine rebounds, five steals and four assists for Bryan's Lady Lions (19-7, 13-5), countering 20 points and 10 rebounds by Armeka Booker and 10 points and seven assists by Shira Buley for TWC (24-3, 16-3). Dante Turnipseed scored 22 points, Stephen Kite Jr. added 15 and Devante Jenkins had 13 points and 11 rebounds for the winning Bulldogs (14-13, 8-9), while Brandon Cole had 33 points and 15 rebounds and Tyler Yoder and Jeff Long scored 15 and 14 points for Bryan (14-11, 8-8).

* At Carrollton, Ga., the Lee University men's basketball team beat West Georgia 89-84 but the Lady Flames lost 72-60 in Gulf South Conference play. Cory Billingsley had 30 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals for the Flames (14-8, 11-8), while Chase Cullen and Elgrin Wilson had 15 and 11 points and seven rebounds each.

Emileigh Swafford scored 17 points and Shelby Brown had 16 points and 13 rebounds for the Lady Flames (13-9, 10-9), who got 10 rebounds from Christina Johnson and seven assists from Alex Swope.

* At Covenant, the Scots lost 94-47 to Berea (18-4) after falling behind 51-18 by halftime. Chris Boyd with 13 points was the only Covenant player scoring more than seven.
