Chattanooga State sweeps Columbia State and more area college basketball

Jay Price expected to sleep well Friday night. Both his Chattanooga State basketball teams won TCCAA games Friday against visiting Columbia State, 76-70 for the women and 76-73 for the male Tigers.

This afternoon they host Jackson State, which lost 75-60 to the Cleveland State women and won 84-77 over the Cleveland State men Friday evening.

In another league doubleheader for a set of area Tigers, Sewanee's men beat Hendrix 62-59 behind a career-high 27 points from team leader and McCallie graduate Jorden Williams, but the Sewanee women lost 70-64 at the Southern Athletic Association school in Conway, Ark., despite 28 points from Hannah McCormack and nine rebounds, seven blcoks and six assists from Kayla Sewell. Brody Stone added 13 points and eight rebounds for the Sewanee men.

Teondra Crawford had 25 points and 10 assists and Sydney Sims, Tariana Carter and Autumn Blackwell scored 14, 11 and 10 points for Chattanooga State's Lady Tigers. The Chattanooga State men got 15 points from Chaunce Watkins, 12 from Filipe Goncalves and 11 and 10 points and nine and eight rebounds from Ronald Jones and Delmont Walton.

Auburn signee T.J. Dunans led Columbia State with 16 points.

Jamesha Mosley and Brianna Tate had 20 and 18 points and 10 rebounds for Cleveland State's Lady Cougars, and Asia Holmes and Brandi Kilpatrick added nine and seven rebounds, the latter with five steals. Rico Overall and Darrion Leslie scored 24 points each in defeat for the Cougars.

Broderick Davis scored 24 points for Jackson State's Generals, and Quinn Thomas had 24 for the Lady Generals.

Covenant's Lady Scots got their second win of the season in an 85-44 defeat of winless USA South foe Mary Baldwin, as Haley Soles scored 20 points with 6-of-9 3-point shooting. Alex Quimby added 15 points, Morgan Woodward had 11 assists and four steals and Abbey Bailey grabbed 17 rebounds in the victory.

Tennessee Temple's teams both won in South Carolina, the Crusaders 84-82 at Allen University behind 21 and 20 points from Weedlens Beauvil and Bryan Jones and the Lady Crusaders 65-60 at Bob Jones with Amber Rector providing 23 points and five assists, Angel Foster contributing 14 p0ints and 10 rebounds and Kirsten Fowler registering nine assists and three steals.
