UTC Mocs pick up three football commitments

It was a busy and productive recruiting weekend for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football team. The Mocs picked up three commitments from among the weekend's official visitors, including defensive lineman Telvin Jones (6-2, 280) of Alma Bryant (Ala.) High, cornerback Levonte Larry (5-9, 175) of Wayne County (Ga.) and fullback Jaquez Tyson (5-10, 210) of Alcoa.

"I loved everything about it -- the town, where the program is headed and the education side," said Jones, who also had offers from Southern Miss, Murray State, Texas Southern and Alabama State among others. "I know they've had a lot of good defensive linemen and I'm just looking to continue that success."

Those commitments give UTC 13 in the current class, with Larry being the fourth defensive back among the group.

Tyson is the cousin of former Mocs fullback Taharin Tyson, a senior leader on last year's team and ran for more than 2,200 yards and 38 touchdowns last season to become a Mr. Football finalist and help Alcoa reach the state championship game.

"I've been around the program for years because of Taharin, so I knew a lot about what to expect already," Tyson said. "The biggest thing I was looking for was finding a place that felt like home. I'm a people person so I knew I could connect with my teammates, but I wanted to find a place that felt like home to me and everything about UTC made me feel that way."
